Regular Season Round 4: Humacao - Bayamon 77-73

Very important is a road loss of third ranked Vaqueros (2-2) against fourth ranked Caciques (3-1) on Friday night. Visiting Vaqueros were defeated by Caciques in a tough game in Humacao 73-77. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Vaqueros. It was a key game for the second position in the league. Vaqueros were ahead by 8 points at the halftime before a 48-36 second half run of Caciques. They also forced 24 Vaqueros turnovers. Vaqueros were plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. The winners were led by American forward Brandon Costner (206-87, college: N.Carolina St.) who scored that evening 27 points and 9 rebounds and guard Cliff Duran (191-89) supported him with 5 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists. Even 24 points by the former international guard Miguel Ali Berdiel (198-83, college: Valparaiso) did not help to save the game for Vaqueros. Nigerian center Jeleel Akindele (216-83, college: Chicago St., agency: Beo Basket) added 11 points and 5 rebounds for lost side. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Caciques have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Guayama. Vaqueros at the other side dropped to the fifth position with two games lost. They share it with San German and Arecibo. Caciques will play against Santeros (#9) in Coamo in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Vaqueros will play at home against Leones (#10) and hope to get back on the winning track.
