Rather predictable result when ninth ranked Alcobendas (7-11) defeated at home 12th ranked Villarrobledo (5-12) 88-72 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 6 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 7-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 88-72. Alcobendas made 31-of-40 free shots (77.5 percent) during the game. They also forced 19 Villarrobledo turnovers. Villarrobledo was plagued by 30 personal fouls down the stretch. Center Jose Maria Gil (207-91) stepped up and scored 18 points and 9 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) for the winners and point guard Carlos Arjonilla (178-78) chipped in 17 points and 9 assists. The best for the losing side was American center Garrick Sims (203-91, college: Lake Erie) with 27 points and 8 rebounds and Sudanese-American forward Adhar Mayen (203-89, college: Hawaii) scored 17 points and 6 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Alcobendas moved-up to eighth place in Group B, which they share with Estudiantes B and Torrelodones. Loser Villarrobledo dropped to the thirteenth position with 12 games lost. Alcobendas will face higher ranked Azuqueca (#4) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Villarrobledo will play against La Roda (#11) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
