Regular Season Round 44: Abejas - Pioneros 87-110

The game in Guanajuato supposed to be also quite interesting. Second ranked Pioneros (35-5) played at the court of 5th ranked Abejas (17-23). Pioneros smashed Abejas 110-87 on Saturday. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Abejas. Pioneros dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Abejas' 34. They shot the lights out from three sinking 14 long-distance shots on high 53.8 percentage. Pioneros looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international center Joaquin Villanueva (207-86) who helped to win the game recording 27 points (on 12-of-13 shooting from the field) and the former international forward Jesus Hiram Lopez (205-83, college: SW Baptist) who added 19 points during the contest. Four Pioneros players scored in double figures. American forward Sammy Yeager (193-89, college: CS Fullerton) responded with 27 points and the former international forward Michael Lizarraga (200-89, college: CS Northridge) scored 17 points and 5 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Pioneros maintains second position with 35-5 record having just three points less than leader Soles. Loser Abejas dropped to the sixth place with 23 games lost.
