Regular Season Round 5: Bayamon - Ponce 77-83

Bottom-ranked Leones managed to get a second victory. This time defending champion won against sixth-ranked Vaqueros in Bayamon 83-77. Vaqueros were ahead by 2 points at the halftime before a 21-12 third quarter run of Leones. Strangely Vaqueros outrebounded Leones 47-33 including a 21-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. 25 personal fouls committed by Vaqueros helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. French center Johan Petro (214-86) nailed 20 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists for the winning side and American Dominic McGuire (206-85, college: Fresno St.) accounted for 11 points, 11 rebounds and 8 assists. Four Leones players scored in double figures. The former international center Peter Ramos (222-85) came up with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 13 rebounds and Dominican swingman Francisco Garcia (201-81, college: Louisville) added 16 points and 7 assists respectively for Vaqueros in the defeat. Vaqueros' coach let to play ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Defending champion (2-3) moved-up to sixth place, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Vaqueros. Leones' next round opponent will be league's leader Caciques in Humacao and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
