Second Stage Round 7: Terceira - Illiabum 68-80

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Angra Heroismo. First ranked Illiabum faced their biggest opponent Terceira. Guests from Ilhavo (11-1) defeated host Terceira (10-3) 80-68. The game was mostly controlled by Illiabum. Terceira was better in second period 17-13. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Worth to mention a great performance of Angolan forward Sergio Correia (198-85) who helped to win the game recording 30 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. The former international point guard Joao Figueiredo (184-79) contributed with 14 points and 5 assists for the winners. Naturalized Sao Tome and Principe center Ekjersey Viana (203-77) answered with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 13 rebounds and American forward Matt Smith (201-91, college: Toledo) added 22 points and 4 blocks in the effort for Terceira. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Illiabum have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain first place in Places 1-8 with 11-1 record. Terceira at the other side keeps the second position with three games lost. Illiabum will play against Sangalhos (#7) at home in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Terceira will play against Atletico (#3) in Lisboa and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
