Quarter-Finals Round 2: Pioneros - Abejas 102-87

Pioneros fired past Abejas to celebrate the second win in the quarterfinal series. It looked good early as Abejas took a 4-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Pioneros had a 29-20 second period charge getting the lead and Abejas were not able to take back game control losing it eventually 87-102. Pioneros shot 60.3 percent from the field. They outrebounded Abejas 36-20 including 22 on the defensive glass. They shot the lights out from three nailing 14 long-distance shots on high 53.8 percentage. Pioneros players were unselfish on offense dishing 28 assists comparing to just 14 passes made by Abejas' players. The former international Hector Hernandez (205-85, college: Fresno St., agency: Pro Sports) had a double-double by scoring 11 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the charge for the winners and American-Puerto Rican point guard Denis Clemente (183-86, college: Kansas St.) chipped in 24 points during the contest. Five Pioneros players scored in double figures. Pioneros' coach Manuel Cintron allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. American forward Travis Franklin (200-88, college: Colorado St.) responded with 22 points and 5 rebounds and his fellow American import forward Sammy Yeager (193-89, college: CS Fullerton) scored 19 points.
