There was no surprise when 9th ranked MLP Academics Heidelberg (12-14) was defeated on the road by third ranked Oettinger Rockets Gotha (20-7) 69-61 on Friday. The game was also dominated by American players. The best player for the winners was power forward Joe Lawson (201-92, college: Indianapolis, agency: Interperformances) who scored 17 points. Guard Jordan Riewer (188-91, college: MSU Moorhead) chipped in 15 points. Lawson is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Oettinger Rockets Gotha's coach Chris Ensminger used an eleven-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. At the other side the best for losing team was forward Devin White (203-88, college: SUNO) who recorded 12 points and 7 rebounds and point guard Bryan Smithson (183-85, college: NC-Asheville) added 16 points respectively. Four MLP Academics Heidelberg players scored in double figures. The victory was the sixth consecutive win for Oettinger Rockets Gotha. They maintain third place with 20-7 record having four points less than leader Jena. Loser MLP Academics Heidelberg keeps the ninth position with 14 games lost. Oettinger Rockets Gotha will face Hamburg (#5) on the road in the next round. MLP Academics Heidelberg will play against Kirchheim Knights (#4) and hope to win that game.
