The game had a very big importance for third-ranked Caciques as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Caciques defeated 6th ranked Piratas in Humacao 80-76. The hosts trailed by 4 points at the halftime before their 40-32 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. The best player for the winners was American forward Brandon Costner (206-87, college: N.Carolina St.) who had a double-double by scoring 26 points and 10 rebounds. Canadian guard Carl English (192-81, college: Hawaii) chipped in 15 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Caciques' coach Flor Melendez used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. American guard Gerald Fitch (191-82, college: Kentucky) produced 14 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists and the former international guard Richard Chaney (196-84, college: Troy) added 18 points and 6 rebounds respectively for the guests. Four Piratas players scored in double figures. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. Piratas lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the sixth place with five games lost. Piratas will play next round against strong Cangrejeros trying to get back on the winning streak. Caciques will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game.
