Regular Season Round 31: Siauliai - Lietuvos rytas 80-81

Sixth-ranked Siauliai (12-16) used its home court advantage to challenge second ranked Lietuvos rytas (22-6) on Sunday. The visitors from Vilnius managed to secure only one-point victory 81-80. However their fans expected much easier game. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Siauliai. The guests were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Lietuvos rytas made 21-of-25 free shots (84.0 percent) during the game. Lietuvos rytas outrebounded Siauliai 43-25 including a 32-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international center Antanas Kavaliauskas (208-84, college: Texas A&M, agency: Interperformances) who helped to win the game recording 14 points and 9 rebounds. Polish center Adam Lapeta (217-87, agency: Alti Sport) contributed with 13 points and 7 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) for the winners. Lietuvos rytas' coach used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. International Rokas Giedraitis (198-92) answered with 19 points and Egyptian forward Assem Marei (206-92, college: Minn.St.-Mankato) added 19 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Siauliai. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Lietuvos rytas maintains second place with 22-6 record having just three points less than leader Zalgiris. Siauliai at the other side keeps the sixth position with 16 games lost. Lietuvos rytas are looking forward to face Nevezis (#9) in Kedainiai in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Siauliai will play at home against Dzukija and is hoping to prove to their supporters that this time they can win.
