Regular Season Round 9: Santurce - Quebradillas 85-76
Date: March 13, 2016
No shocking result in a game when second ranked Cangrejeros (6-3) beat 6th ranked Piratas (4-6) in Santurce 85-76 on Sunday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Piratas won fourth quarter 22-21. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Cangrejeros made 17-of-20 free shots (85.0 percent) during the game. They also forced 22 Piratas turnovers. Strangely Piratas outrebounded Cangrejeros 38-26 including 24 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. It was a good game for American forward Damion James (201-87, college: Texas, agency: Priority Sports) who led his team to a victory with 22 points and 8 rebounds. His fellow American import forward Javon McCrea (201-92, college: Buffalo) contributed with 16 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. American forward Brian Conklin (198-89, college: St.Louis) answered with 15 points and 6 rebounds and the former international guard Richard Chaney (196-84, college: Troy) added 13 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Piratas. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The victory was the third consecutive win for Cangrejeros. Despite that victory Cangrejeros went down to third position due to points difference. Piratas lost their fifth game in a row. They dropped to the eighth place with six games lost. Cangrejeros will face league's second-placed Caciques in Humacao in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Piratas will play on the road against the league's leader Capitanes (#1) in Arecibo and hope to win that game.
