Regular Season Round 11: Bayamon - Humacao 69-76

Leader Caciques delivered the ninth win on Friday night. This time they beat 11th ranked Vaqueros (3-8) 76-69 in Bayamon. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Vaqueros won third quarter 25-21. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Caciques won last quarter 20-14. The best player for the winners was Canadian guard Carl English (192-81, college: Hawaii) who scored 17 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Guard Cliff Duran (191-89) chipped in 14 points and 4 assists. Caciques' coach Flor Melendez used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Nigerian center Jeleel Akindele (216-83, college: Chicago St., agency: Beo Basket) produced a double-double by scoring 18 points and 14 rebounds and American guard Clay Tucker (196-80, college: Wisc.-Milwaukee) added 17 points and 8 assists respectively for the hosts. Four Vaqueros players scored in double figures. Caciques have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain first place with 9-2 record. Vaqueros lost third consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with eight games lost. Caciques are looking forward to face Indios (#8) in Mayaguez in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Vaqueros will have a break next round.
