Regular Season Round 23: Cantbasket - La Fecha 85-60

Date: March 19, 2016
Very expected game in Santander where 12th ranked La Fecha (4-15) was crushed by sixth ranked Cantbasket (10-8) 85-60 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 4 points at the halftime before their 51-22 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Cantbasket dominated on the defensive end, holding La Fecha to just 7 points in third quarter. They made 16-of-20 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. They outrebounded La Fecha 34-23 including 29 on the defensive glass. It was a great evening for American center Chris Matagrano (206-90, college: New Hampshire) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!) and 11 rebounds (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!). His fellow American import guard DeAngelo Hailey (190-90, college: NW Missouri St.) helped adding 8 points and 5 rebounds. Forward Arturo Sarmiento (193-94, agency: Dynamics Global Management) responded with 19 points (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) and forward Manuel Sanchez (192-89) scored 10 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Cantbasket maintains sixth place in Group A-A with 10-8 record. La Fecha lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the twelfth position with 15 games lost. Cantbasket will face higher ranked Santurtzi (#3) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. La Fecha will play against the league's leader Ardoi (#1) and hope to win that game.
