Regular Season Round 22: Olimpi - MIA Academy 70-76

Date: March 19, 2016
Another interesting game was a derby match between two teams from Tbilisi: MIA (#8) and Olimpi (#6). Olimpi was defeated at home 70-76 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. The guests were ahead by 6 points but lost the second period ending it with a 2-point deficit before their 22-14 run, which allowed them to win the game. MIA players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. The former international Merab Bokolishvili (196-92) scored 14 points and 5 assists to lead the charge for the winners and Belarusian center Vladzimir Krysevich (209-91) chipped in 18 points (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) during the contest. At the losing side British V.Islands forward Leslie Smith (203-91, college: Nebraska) responded with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 14 rebounds and American guard Jeremy Bynum (193-88, college: Jacksonville St.) scored 19 points and 7 rebounds. Olimpi's coach Leonid Ivatin rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Defending champion maintains eighth position with 5-17 record. Olimpi at the other side dropped to the seventh place with 13 games lost. MIA will play against league's leader Kutaisi at home in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Olimpi's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Tbilisi to the arena Sokhumi.
