Regular Season Round 23: Coin - San Juan 96-79

Everything could happen at the game between two tied teams. Both sixth ranked Coin and 5th ranked San Juan had identical 3-6 record. This time Coin used a home court advantage and beat the opponent from San Juan del Puerto 96-79 on Saturday night. The hosts trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 7-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 96-79. Coin dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to San Juan's 36. They outrebounded San Juan 43-28 including a 31-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great evening for guard Juan Mendez (181-85) who led his team to a victory scoring 23 points and 6 rebounds. Center Juan Vasco (200-83) helped adding 11 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists. Five Coin players scored in double figures. Forward Gonzalo Avila (198-79) responded with 26 points and Miguel Mora scored 15 points. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Coin (4-6) moved-up to fourth place in Group D Titulo, which they share with Medacbasket. San Juan lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team dropped to the sixth position with seven games lost. Coin will have a break next round. San Juan will play at home against Medacbasket (#5) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
