Regular Season Round 12: Quebradillas - San German 83-90

There was a minor upset when 7th ranked Piratas (5-8) lost to seventh ranked Atleticos (5-8) in Quebradillas 83-90 on Saturday. Piratas trailed by 16 points after 3 quarters before a 22-13 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 83-90 at the end of the game. Atleticos dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Piratas' 30. The winners were led by American-Dominican guard Maurice Carter (183-83, college: Robert Morris) who scored that evening 24 points and 8 assists and Egyptian-American center Omar Samhan (211-88, college: St.Mary's, CA) supported him with 17 points and 13 rebounds. Even a double-double of 16 points and 11 rebounds by Cuban guard Yudniel Perez (189-84, agency: Paris Global Sports) did not help to save the game for Piratas. The former international Elias Ayuso (190-77, college: USC, agency: Paris Global Sports) added 23 points. Five Atleticos and four Piratas players scored in double figures. Piratas' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Despite that victory Atleticos went down to eighth position due to points difference, which they share with Quebradillas. Atleticos will meet at home higher ranked Santeros (#5) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Piratas will play against Manati and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
