Regular Season Round 12: San German - Arecibo 79-89

Date: March 20, 2016
The game in San German was also quite interesting. Third ranked Capitanes (8-4) played at the court of 7th ranked Atleticos (5-8). Capitanes defeated Atleticos 89-79 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Capitanes. Atleticos managed to win second period 24-21. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Atleticos 45-32 including 30 on the defensive glass. Capitanes looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Capitanes made 7 blocks. The winners were led by the former international swingman David Huertas (195-87, college: Mississippi) who scored that evening 27 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists and the former international swingman Joel Jones (196-81, college: Sacramento St.) supported him with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Capitanes' coach Rafael Cruz used an eleven-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Even 22 points and 5 rebounds by forward Benito Santiago (198, college: Cumberlands) did not help to save the game for Atleticos. Panamanian forward Tony Bishop (201-89, college: Texas St., agency: Inception Sports) added 14 points and 9 rebounds. Four Atleticos players scored in double figures. Capitanes moved-up to second place. Loser Atleticos dropped to the eighth position with eight games lost. They share it with Quebradillas. Capitanes will meet at home Cangrejeros (#3) in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Atleticos will play against Santeros (#5) and hope to secure a win.
