Regular Season Round 8: Guaymas - Guasave 111-99

Round 8 in CIBACOPA means a new league leader. The biggest surprise took place in Guaymas where host Ostioneros de Guaymas (5-2) beat league's leader Frayles de Guasave (5-2) 111-99 on Tuesday evening. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Frayles de Guasave. It was a key game for the second position in the league. Ostioneros de Guaymas dominated down low during the game scoring 76 of its points in the paint compared to Frayles de Guasave's 48. They outrebounded Frayles de Guasave 43-27 including a 32-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. Ostioneros de Guaymas looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. The game was dominated by American players. The best player for the winners was swingman Devin Green (201-82, college: Hampton, agency: Interperformances) who scored 26 points and 7 rebounds. Power forward Mike Dabney (203-88, college: Bowling Green) chipped in 24 points and 7 rebounds. Dabney is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Five Ostioneros de Guaymas players scored in double figures. Guard Jordan Williams (198, college: N.Texas) produced 29 points and Kevin Rogers (206-86, college: Baylor) added 17 points and 11 rebounds respectively for the guests. Frayles de Guasave's coach rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Ostioneros de Guaymas have an impressive five-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Guasave and Hermosillo. Frayles de Guasave will play next round against strong Frayles de Guasave trying to make it back to the top of the standings. It will be a derby game for which supporters look forward to, where their team will face at home their local rival from Guasave - Frayles de Guasave. Ostioneros de Guaymas will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game.
