There was no surprise in Bayamon where 10th ranked Vaqueros (5-9) were defeated by seventh ranked Piratas (7-9) 78-69 on Thursday. Vaqueros trailed by 17 points after 3 quarters before a 24-16 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 69-78 at the end of the game. Piratas looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The former international Elias Ayuso (190-77, college: USC, agency: Paris Global Sports) scored 13 points and 8 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and the former international center Jorge Bryan Diaz (210-89, college: Nebraska) chipped in 13 points and 7 rebounds during the contest. Four Piratas players scored in double figures. Nigerian center Jeleel Akindele (216-83, college: Chicago St., agency: Beo Basket) responded with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 14 rebounds and the former international center Peter Ramos (222-85) produced a double-double by scoring 30 points and 12 rebounds. Vaqueros' coach let to play ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Piratas moved-up to sixth place. Loser Vaqueros dropped to the bottom position with nine games lost. Piratas will meet at home league's leader Capitanes in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Vaqueros will play against Leones (#9) in Juana Diaz and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
