Worth to mention about the upset in a game between Santeros (9-7) and Vaqueros (7-10), which took place in Coamo. Higher ranked Santeros were outleveled at home by ninth ranked Vaqueros 99-60. It looked good early as Santeros took a 4-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Vaqueros had a 24-10 second period charge getting the lead and Santeros were not able to take back game control losing it eventually 60-99. Vaqueros made 18-of-22 charity shots (81.8 percent) during the game. Vaqueros had a 31-19 advantage in offensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 34 assists comparing to just 16 passes made by Santeros' players. Nigerian center Jeleel Akindele (216-83, college: Chicago St., agency: Beo Basket) fired 18 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists (made all of his eight free throws) for the winners. Dominican swingman Francisco Garcia (201-81, college: Louisville) chipped in 24 points and 4 assists. Five Vaqueros players scored in double figures. American forward Chane Behanan (198-92, college: Louisville) produced 13 points and 6 rebounds and Dominican guard Rigoberto Mendoza (190-92) added 11 points and 7 assists respectively for lost side. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Vaqueros moved-up to eighth place. Santeros at the other side keep the fourth position with seven games lost. Vaqueros' next round opponent will be Indios (#9) in Mayaguez.
