Regular Season Round 17: Quebradillas - Ponce 76-93

An interesting game took place in Quebradillas where 7th ranked Piratas (8-11) were upset on its own court by tenth ranked Leones (7-11) 93-76. The game was mostly controlled by Leones. Piratas was better in fourth quarter 28-26. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Piratas 43-30 including 30 on the defensive glass. The former international swingman Angel Daniel Vassallo (198-86, college: Virginia Tech) orchestrated the victory by scoring 27 points and 6 rebounds. American Dominic McGuire (206-85, college: Fresno St.) contributed with a double-double by scoring 12 points, 16 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Five Leones players scored in double figures. American forward Brian Conklin (198-89, college: St.Louis) answered with 32 points and 7 rebounds and the other American import forward Jordan Glynn (200-89, college: SF Austin) added 15 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Piratas. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Defending champion moved-up to ninth place. Piratas at the other side dropped to the eighth position with 11 games lost. Leones will have a break next round.
