Regular Season Round 18: Guayama - Bayamon 74-79
Date: April 1, 2016
We could consider it a predictable result in the game between close teams in Guayama where seventh ranked Vaqueros (9-10) defeated 6th ranked Brujos (8-10) 79-74. The guests were ahead by 7 points but lost the second period ending it with a 4-point deficit before their 27-18 run, which allowed them to win the game. Vaqueros made 22-of-26 charity shots (84.6 percent) during the game. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. Brujos were plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for the former international center Peter Ramos (222-85) who led his team to a victory with 23 points (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line). American guard Clay Tucker (196-80, college: Wisc.-Milwaukee) contributed with 16 points and 5 assists for the winners. The former international swingman Alejandro Carmona (194-83) replied with 14 points and 5 rebounds and American-Dominican Antonio Pena (204-86, college: Villanova) added 16 points in the effort for Brujos. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Brujos' coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Vaqueros have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to sixth place. Brujos lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the eighth position with ten games lost. Vaqueros will play against league's leader Capitanes in Arecibo in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Brujos will play on the road against Indios (#10) in Mayaguez and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
