Regular Season Round 18: San German - Humacao 85-89

There was no surprise in San German where 11th ranked Atleticos (6-12) were defeated by second ranked Caciques (12-6) 89-85. The guests were ahead by 9 points but lost the second period ending it with a 2-point deficit before their 24-18 run, which allowed them to win the game. Caciques players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists. It was a good game for American forward Brandon Costner (206-87, college: N.Carolina St.) who led his team to a victory with 18 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Guard Cliff Duran (191-89) contributed with 21 points for the winners. Egyptian-American center Omar Samhan (211-88, college: St.Mary's, CA) replied with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 15 rebounds and forward Benito Santiago (198, college: Cumberlands) added 21 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Atleticos. Five Caciques and four Atleticos players scored in double figures. Caciques maintains second position with 12-6 record having just one point less than leader Arecibo. Atleticos lost third consecutive game. They stay at the bottom place with 12 games lost. Caciques will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Atleticos will play at home against Piratas (#7) and hope to get back on the winning track.
