No shocking result in a game in Bayamon where fifth ranked Vaqueros (12-10) defeated bottom-ranked Atleticos (7-13) 90-75 on Thursday. The game was mostly controlled by Vaqueros. Atleticos managed to win fourth quarter 33-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Vaqueros forced 20 Atleticos turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 29 assists. Nigerian center Jeleel Akindele (216-83, college: Chicago St., agency: Beo Basket) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 24 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists (on 11-of-13 shooting from the field) for the winners and American guard Clay Tucker (196-80, college: Wisc.-Milwaukee) chipped in 17 points and 4 assists. Four Vaqueros players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American guard Jahvari Josiah (193-93, college: Coppin St.) with 19 points and 7 rebounds and the former international center Matt Lopez (213-92, college: Rider) scored 7 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Vaqueros have an impressive series of six victories in a row. They moved-up to fourth place. Loser Atleticos stay at the bottom position with 13 games lost. They share it with Ponce and Mayaguez. Vaqueros will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Atleticos will play against Manati (#7) and hope to secure a win.
