Regular Season Round 5: Hobart C. - N W Tasmania 89-73

Date: April 8, 2016
Everything could happen in Hobart at the game between two tied teams. Both leader Chargers and 6th ranked NW Tasmania Thunder had identical 1-0 record. This time Chargers used a home court advantage and beat the opponent from Ulverstone 89-73 on Friday night. It was a key game for the top position in League. Strangely NW Tasmania Thunder outrebounded Chargers 47-32 including a 34-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. American swingman Shane Southwell (201-92, college: Kansas St.) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 23 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and point guard Jarrad Weeks (185-89) chipped in 23 points and 4 assists. Chargers' coach used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. The former international forward Bradley Simpson (198-90, college: Adelphi) responded with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 18 rebounds and American forward Garrett Jackson (201-91, college: St.Mary's, CA) scored 15 points and 7 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Chargers (2-0) keep a position of League leader. Loser NW Tasmania Thunder keeps the sixth place with one game lost. Chargers will face Tigers (#6) in Melbourne in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. NW Tasmania Thunder will play on the road against Bendigo Braves and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
