Regular Season Round 31: Caen - Bordeaux 88-79

Everything went according to plan when eighth ranked Caen (17-14) beat at home 13th ranked JSA Bordeaux (14-17) 88-79 on Friday. The hosts trailed by 11 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 13-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 88-79. Caen dominated on the defensive end, holding JSA Bordeaux to just 7 points in second quarter. They outrebounded JSA Bordeaux 47-28 including a 20-9 advantage in offensive rebounds. Caen looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. JSA Bordeaux was plagued by 30 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a great evening for American power forward Marvin Phillips (203-83, college: Claflin) who led his team to a victory scoring 25 points and 9 rebounds. His fellow American import Bill Clark (200-88, college: Duquesne) helped adding 14 points, 14 rebounds and 6 assists. Four Caen players scored in double figures. At the losing side Lithuanian point guard Eigirdas Zukauskas (201-92) responded with 25 points and 6 rebounds and naturalized Senegalese forward Moustapha Diop (204-89) scored 9 points and 7 rebounds. Caen moved-up to seventh place. Loser JSA Bordeaux keeps the thirteenth position with 17 games lost. Caen will face bottom-ranked CFBB (#18) in Paris in the next round which should be an easy win for them. JSA Bordeaux will play at home against Berck (#17) and hope to win that game.
