Regular Season Round 22: Santurce - Bayamon 64-88

Very important is a home loss of third ranked Cangrejeros (12-9) against fourth ranked Vaqueros (13-10) on Sunday night. Host Cangrejeros were crushed by Vaqueros in Santurce 88-64. It looked good early as Cangrejeros took a 2-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Vaqueros had a 25-15 second period charge getting the lead and Cangrejeros were not able to take back game control losing it eventually 64-88. Vaqueros dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Cangrejeros' 32. They outrebounded Cangrejeros 46-27 including 32 on the defensive glass. Vaqueros players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. Nigerian center Jeleel Akindele (216-83, college: Chicago St., agency: Beo Basket) had a double-double by scoring 18 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the charge for the winners and American guard Clay Tucker (196-80, college: Wisc.-Milwaukee) chipped in 24 points during the contest. Five Vaqueros players scored in double figures. At the losing side French center Johan Petro (214-86) responded with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 11 rebounds and American forward Jamil Wilson (201-90, college: Marquette) scored 16 points and 5 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Vaqueros have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They moved-up to third place. Cangrejeros at the other side dropped to the fourth position with nine games lost. Vaqueros will play against Santeros (#6) in Coamo in the next round. Cangrejeros will play on the road against Brujos in Guayama and hope to get back on the winning track.
