There was a surprise result in Arecibo where ninth ranked Atleticos (9-13) edged second-ranked Capitanes (13-9) 76-74 on Monday. The guests trailed by 7 points after three quarters before their 23-14 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Strangely Capitanes outrebounded Atleticos 34-21. It was a great evening for Egyptian-American center Omar Samhan (211-88, college: St.Mary's, CA) who led his team to a victory scoring 23 points and 8 rebounds. Panamanian forward Tony Bishop (201-89, college: Texas St., agency: Inception Sports) helped adding 13 points. International forward Renaldo Balkman (203-84, college: S.Carolina) responded with 18 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 blocks and American center Chris Johnson (210-85, college: LSU) scored 10 points and 8 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Atleticos maintains ninth place with 9-13 record. Capitanes lost third consecutive game. They keep the second position with nine games lost. Atleticos will face higher ranked Santeros (#5) in Coamo in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Capitanes will play on the road against Cangrejeros in Santurce and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
