Regular Season Round 32: Challans - Vitre 81-89

Date: April 16, 2016
There was a small surprise when thirteenth ranked Vitre (15-17) defeated on the road 11th ranked Vendee Challans (15-17) 89-81 on Saturday. Vendee Challans trailed by 12 points after 3 quarters before a 20-16 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 81-89 at the end of the game. Vitre made 23-of-27 free shots (85.2 percent) during the game. The best player for the winners was forward Guillaume Merie (198-83) who had a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!) and 10 rebounds (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!). American Wilbert Brown (199-84, college: Niagara) chipped in 19 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Naturalized Mali point guard Ibrahim Saounera (180-87) produced 19 points and 7 assists and American forward Anthony Hill (204-88, college: Wisc.-Milwaukee) added 10 points and 8 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Five Vendee Challans players scored in double figures. Vendee Challans' coach tested ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Vitre have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to twelfth place, which they share with Bordeaux and Challans. Vitre will face higher ranked SAP Vaucluse (#11) in Sorgues in the next round and it may be quite challenging game.
