Regular Season Round 26: Guayama - Mayaguez 96-108

Bottom-ranked Indios managed to get the second consecutive victory. This time they won against eighth-ranked Brujos in Guayama 108-96. The game was mostly controlled by Indios. Brujos was better in second period 24-23. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 19-of-22 charity shots (86.4 percent) during the game. Indios players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. The former international point guard Filiberto Rivera (190-82, college: UTEP) notched a double-double by scoring 21 points and 12 assists to lead the effort and American Josh Powell (206-83, college: N.Carolina St.) supported him with 27 points and 8 rebounds (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!). Even a double-double of 24 points, 18 rebounds and 7 assists by American forward Eugene Phelps (198-90, college: Long Beach St.) did not help to save the game for Brujos. The former international swingman Alejandro Carmona (194-83) added 18 points for the hosts. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Brujos' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Indios maintains eleventh position with 9-15 record. Brujos at the other side keep the eighth place with 14 games lost. Indios will play against league's leader Cangrejeros in Santurce in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Brujos will play on the road against Atleticos (#9) in San German and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
