Regular Season Round 27: Arecibo - Quebradillas 88-93

Top ranked Capitanes (15-11) recorded its eleventh loss in Arecibo on Wednesday night. Hosts were defeated by sixth ranked Piratas (14-14) 93-88. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Capitanes. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Capitanes won third quarter 23-21. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Piratas made 30-of-35 free shots (85.7 percent) during the game, while Capitanes only scored nine points from the stripe. Strangely Capitanes outrebounded Piratas 44-29 including a 21-10 advantage in offensive rebounds. 28 personal fouls committed by Capitanes helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was American-Italian guard Kevin Lisch (188-86, college: St.Louis) who scored 23 points and 7 assists (went 11 for 11 at the free throw line !!!). American forward Brian Conklin (198-89, college: St.Louis) chipped in a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was international forward Renaldo Balkman (203-84, college: S.Carolina) who recorded a double-double by scoring 20 points and 11 rebounds and U.S. Virgin Islands forward Cuthbert Victor (197-83, college: Murray St.) added 11 points and 15 rebounds respectively. Four Piratas and five Capitanes players scored in double figures. Piratas have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain sixth place with 14-14 record. Capitanes at the other side still keep top position with 11 games lost. They share it with Santurce. Piratas are looking forward to face higher ranked Caciques (#3) in Humacao in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Capitanes will have a break next round.
