There was a small surprise in Bayamon where seventh ranked Brujos (14-15) edged 5th ranked Vaqueros (15-14) 73-71 on Saturday. The guests trailed by 12 points after three quarters before their 28-14 charge, which allowed them to win the game. American forward Eugene Phelps (198-90, college: Long Beach St.) stepped up and scored 13 points and 6 rebounds for the winners and the former international power forward Ricardo Sanchez (212-87, agency: Beo Basket) chipped in 9 points and 9 rebounds. Nigerian center Jeleel Akindele (216-83, college: Chicago St., agency: Beo Basket) responded with a double-double by scoring 19 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists and the former international swingman Alex Franklin (198-88, college: Siena) scored 14 points and 7 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Despite that victory Brujos went down to eighth position due to points difference. Loser Vaqueros keep the fifth place with 14 games lost. Brujos will have a break next round. Vaqueros will play on the road against Piratas (#6) in Quebradillas and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
