Fifth ranked Ironi Nahariya won an overtime thriller edging one of their biggest challengers Maccabi Haifa by one point 81-82 on Sunday night. The game took place in Haifa. But the guests from Nahariya were better at the end. The guests trailed by 4 points after three quarters before their 24-20 charge, which allowed them to tie the game at the end of regular time and get a 1-point victory in overtime. Ironi Nahariya forced 20 Maccabi Haifa turnovers. Maccabi Haifa was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for American forward Gilbert Brown (198-87, college: Pittsburgh) who saved his team from a defeat with 19 points and 5 rebounds. The other American import swingman Cameron Clark (201-91, college: Oklahoma) contributed with 14 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. International center Alexey Chubrevich (212-86) replied with 19 points and 8 rebounds and Venezuelan point guard Gregory Vargas (180-86, agency: Pro Sports) added 15 points and 8 assists in the effort for Maccabi Haifa. Five Ironi Nahariya and four Maccabi Haifa players scored in double figures. Ironi Nahariya (16-13) moved-up to fourth place. Maccabi Haifa at the other side keeps the third position with 13 games lost. Ironi Nahariya will face Bnei Hasharon (#6) in Hod Hasharon in the next round. Maccabi Haifa will play on the road against Maccabi K/G in Kiryat Gat and hope to win that game.
