Regular Season Round 31: Humacao - Arecibo 80-78

The most exciting game of round 31 in the BSN took place in Humacao. This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of 4th placed Capitanes (15-14) to second ranked Caciques (17-14) 80-78 on Wednesday evening. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Capitanes won third quarter 21-20. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Caciques made 19-of-25 free shots (76.0 percent) during the game. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Brandon Costner (206-87, college: N.Carolina St.) who helped to win the game recording 33 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds. Dominican forward Jack Michael Martinez (201-81) contributed with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. International forward Renaldo Balkman (203-84, college: S.Carolina) answered with a double-double by scoring 14 points, 12 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 blocks and the former international guard Guillermo Diaz (188-85, college: Miami, FL) added 23 points (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field) in the effort for Capitanes. Capitanes' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Caciques maintains second place with 17-14 record having just two points less than leader Santurce, which they share with Bayamon. Capitanes lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the fourth position with 14 games lost. Caciques is looking forward to face Brujos (#5) in Guayama in the next round. Capitanes will play at home against Santeros and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
