Regular Season Round 31: Ponce - Manati 81-74

There was a minor upset when 9th ranked Manati (14-16) lost to ninth ranked Leones (15-16) in Juana Diaz 74-81. It looked good early as Manati took a 1-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Leones had a 23-15 second period charge getting the lead and Manati was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 74-81. Leones made 17-of-21 charity shots (81.0 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Manati 46-32 including 31 on the defensive glass. Leones players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. American power forward Denzel Bowles (208-89, college: JMU) fired a double-double by scoring 19 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. His fellow American import forward Devin Ebanks (206-89, college: W.Virginia, agency: Octagon Europe) chipped in a double-double by scoring 17 points and 11 rebounds. Irish-Australian center Andrew James Ogilvy (211-88, college: Vanderbilt) produced 13 points and 9 rebounds and guard Alexis Colon (191) added 11 points and 8 rebounds respectively for lost side. Four Leones and five Manati players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Leones have a solid series of three victories in a row. Defending champion moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Quebradillas. Manati at the other side keeps the ninth position with 16 games lost. Leones' next round opponent will be Atleticos (#10) in San German. Manati will play on the road against Vaqueros in Bayamon and hope to win that game.
