Regular Season Round 31: Quebradillas - Guayama 67-71

There was a small surprise when eighth ranked Brujos (15-15) beat 6th ranked Piratas (15-16) in Quebradillas 71-67. Piratas were ahead by 5 points after three quarters before a 25-16 charge of Brujos, which allowed them to win the game. Strangely Piratas outrebounded Brujos 47-30 including a 15-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. American forward Eugene Phelps (198-90, college: Long Beach St.) fired a double-double by scoring 18 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Naturalized American guard Darnell Hinson (185-80, college: Northeastern St.) chipped in 21 points. American forward Brian Conklin (198-89, college: St.Louis) produced a double-double by scoring 10 points and 14 rebounds and American-Italian guard Kevin Lisch (188-86, college: St.Louis) added 18 points and 5 rebounds respectively for lost side. Four Piratas players scored in double figures. Brujos moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Aguada. Piratas at the other side dropped to the seventh position with 16 games lost. Brujos' next round opponent will be league's second-placed Caciques in Humacao and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Piratas will play at home against the league's leader Cangrejeros (#1) and hope to win that game.
