Regular Season Round 7: Norths Bears - Newcastle H. 57-78

There was no surprise when 4th placed North Bears (2-3) were outleveled by second ranked Hunters (4-1) in Crows Nest 78-57 on Saturday. Strangely North Bears outrebounded Hunters 51-37 including a 23-8 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. It was a very good performance for Shannon Novosel who helped to win the game recording 23 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists. Guard Sophie Kleeman (175-90, college: Troy) contributed with 11 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners. Four Hunters players scored in double figures. Kathryn Rendall answered with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 15 rebounds and American guard Kallie Hovatter (175-89, college: Elon) added 13 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for North Bears. North Bears' coach gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Hunters maintains second place in League with 4-1 record having 3 victories less than leader Rockingham CF. Loser North Bears dropped to the sixth position with three games lost. Hunters will face league's leader Spireds in Hornsby in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. North Bears will play on the road against Manly Warringah Sea Eagles (#7) in Narrabeen and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
