We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 7th ranked Real Canoe (13-12) lost to eighth ranked Gran Canaria (11-14) in Madrid 59-65 on Saturday. The guests trailed by 4 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 10-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 65-59. It was a very good performance for Georgian Willy Isiani (203-97) who helped to win the game recording 12 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. The former international point guard Bernardo Hernandez (187-75) contributed with 12 points and 5 assists for the winners. Gran Canaria's coach Pepe Carrion allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Uruguayan-Greek forward Maximiliano Sole (198-88, agency: Duran International) replied with a double-double by scoring 10 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists and point guard Alejandro Iglesias (180-91) added 14 points in the effort for Real Canoe. Gran Canaria have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain eighth position in Group B with 11-14 record. Newly promoted Real Canoe keeps the seventh place with 12 games lost. Gran Canaria will face higher ranked Quintanar (#3) at home in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game.
