Regular Season Round 34: Arecibo - Bayamon 80-87

Date: May 4, 2016
The game in Arecibo was quite interesting. Second ranked Vaqueros (19-15) played at the court of 8th ranked Capitanes (16-16). Vaqueros managed to secure a 7-point victory 87-80 on Wednesday. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 26-21. But Capitanes won second period 19-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Vaqueros looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. 24 personal fouls committed by Capitanes helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international center Peter Ramos (222-85) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 21 points and 11 rebounds. Nigerian center Jeleel Akindele (216-83, college: Chicago St., agency: Beo Basket) contributed with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. Five Vaqueros players scored in double figures. American forward Coty Clarke (201-92, college: Arkansas) replied with 24 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists and international forward Renaldo Balkman (203-84, college: S.Carolina) added 18 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists (made all of his eight free throws) in the effort for Capitanes. Capitanes' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Vaqueros maintains second position with 19-15 record having just one point less than leader Santurce. Capitanes at the other side keep the eighth place with 16 games lost. Vaqueros are looking forward to face Manati (#9) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Capitanes will play against Santeros in Coamo and are hoping to prove to their fans that the loss was just an accident.
