Regular Season Round 35: Manati - Bayamon 80-84

Very expected game when 9th ranked Manati (15-19) was defeated at home by second ranked Vaqueros (20-15) 84-80 on Friday. Manati was tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. Vaqueros looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. The best player for the winners was Nigerian center Jeleel Akindele (216-83, college: Chicago St., agency: Beo Basket) who had a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 rebounds (perfect from the field making all seven shots !!!). Dominican swingman Francisco Garcia (201-81, college: Louisville) chipped in 14 points and 6 assists. Vaqueros' coach Ivan Flores used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Irish-Australian center Andrew James Ogilvy (211-88, college: Vanderbilt) produced 24 points and 9 rebounds and Dominican point guard Adris De Leon (180-84, college: E.Washington) added 20 points respectively for the hosts. Four Vaqueros and five Manati players scored in double figures. Vaqueros maintains second place with 20-15 record having just one point less than leader Santurce. Loser Manati keeps the ninth position with 19 games lost. They share it with San German. Vaqueros will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Manati will play against Piratas (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
