The game in Juana Diaz was also worth to mention about. Third ranked Capitanes (19-16) played at the court of 5th ranked Leones (18-18). Capitanes defeated Leones 88-72. It looked good early as Leones took a 1-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Capitanes had a 15-11 second period charge getting the lead and Leones were not able to take back game control losing it eventually 72-88. Capitanes shot 32 for 44 from the free-throw line, while Leones only scored eleven points from the stripe. They outrebounded Leones 44-30 including 30 on the defensive glass. 28 personal fouls committed by Leones helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The winners were led by the former international swingman David Huertas (195-87, college: Mississippi) who scored that evening 31 points (went 10 for 10 at the free throw line !!!) and American center Cady Lalanne (208-92, college: Massachusetts) supported him with 10 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Even 18 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists by American power forward Denzel Bowles (208-89, college: JMU) did not help to save the game for Leones. International point guard Carlos Rivera (187-83, college: Hofstra) added 11 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players saving starting five for next games. Capitanes have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 19-16 record having just three points less than leader Santurce, which they share with Aguada. Defending champion Leones dropped to the seventh place with 18 games lost. Capitanes' next round opponent will be bottom-ranked Indios (#11) in Mayaguez and are hoping to win another game.
