Arecibo upset Ponce for the opening victory in the series. The guests trailed by 3 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 9-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 98-84. Capitanes outrebounded Leones 40-28 including 18 on the offensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. American forward Coty Clarke (201-92, college: Arkansas) stepped up and scored 20 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and international forward Renaldo Balkman (203-84, college: S.Carolina) chipped in 15 points and 10 rebounds. Five Capitanes players scored in double figures. Capitanes' coach Rafael Cruz used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side American forward Devin Ebanks (206-89, college: W.Virginia, agency: Octagon Europe) responded with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 10 rebounds and the other American import power forward Denzel Bowles (208-89, college: JMU) scored 21 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists.
