Quarter-Finals Round 3: Arecibo - Ponce 103-97

Arecibo overcame Ponce to secure a comfortable 3-0 lead in the series. It looked good early as Leones took a 5-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Capitanes had a 30-17 second period charge getting the lead and Leones were not able to take back game control losing it eventually 97-103. Capitanes dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Leones' 38. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 31 assists. It was a good game for international forward Renaldo Balkman (203-84, college: S.Carolina) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 12 rebounds (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field). American forward Davon Jefferson (204-86, college: USC) contributed with 16 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. The former international point guard Ansel Guzman (174-84) answered with 23 points and 5 rebounds and American power forward Denzel Bowles (208-89, college: JMU) added 10 points and 12 rebounds in the effort for Leones. Four Capitanes and five Leones players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games.
