ASVEL regained the lead in the semifinal series. They beat Monaco at home court to take 2-1 lead. The hosts trailed by 1 point at the halftime before their 37-29 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. 25 personal fouls committed by Monaco helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was American center Darryl Watkins (211-84, college: Syracuse, agency: Inception Sports) who scored 11 points and 8 rebounds. His fellow American import point guard Casper Ware (178-90, college: Long Beach St.) chipped in 11 points and 4 assists. ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket's coach J.D. Jackson used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was Jamaican-American power forward Adrian Uter (200-84, college: Hofstra) who recorded 21 points and American point guard D.J. Cooper (183-90, college: Ohio) added 8 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists respectively.
