Bayamon eked out a narrow victory over Arecibo in the BSN Finals opener. The hosts were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. 29 personal fouls committed by Capitanes helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Nigerian center Jeleel Akindele (216-83, college: Chicago St., agency: BeoBasket) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 21 points, 15 rebounds and 4 blocks for the winners and the former international guard Miguel Ali Berdiel (198-83, college: Valparaiso) chipped in 16 points and 5 assists. At the losing side American forward Coty Clarke (201-92, college: Arkansas) responded with 18 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists and the former international swingman David Huertas (195-87, college: Mississippi) scored 15 points. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Capitanes' coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total twelve players in this game, but that didn't help.
