Mazatlan rallied past Guaymas for the opening victory in the semifinal series. 25 personal fouls committed by Ostioneros de Guaymas helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Jeff Ledbetter (190-88, college: Idaho) who helped to win the game recording 22 points (made all of his eight free throws). His fellow American import point guard Curtis Stinson (191-83, college: Iowa St.) contributed with 18 points and 7 assists for the winners. Dominican guard Luis Flores (188-81, college: Manhattan, agency: 011 Sports) answered with 28 points and the former international forward Michael Lizarraga (200-89, college: CS Northridge) added 23 points in the effort for Ostioneros de Guaymas. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures.
