Puerto Rico claimed the first victory at the tournament. They beat hosting Chile in Valdivia. Jhivan Jackson and Jesus Cruz stepped up with 15 points each to lead the effort. Chile stayed in front throughout the first half. They arrived at the big break up by 4 points 32:28. But Puerto Rico turned the tables in the second half. They pulled within one point at the final intermission. The visitors then ignited a 20:9 run in the fourth quarter to seal the win. Nicolas Aguirre stepped up with 15 points for Chile.
