Brazil celebrated the first win in Rio de Janeiro. The hosts upset Spain for 1-1 record in Group B. Marcelinho Huertas chipped in 11 points, 7 assists and 4 boards for the home side. Brazil grabbed an 18:13 lead after ten minutes. They stretched the gap at 8-point mark heading into the fourth stanza. Spain denied the deficit as Sergio Llull put them in front late in regulation. But Marcelinho Vieira tipped the ball in to give the decisive lead to the home side. He finished with 10 points for Brazil. Pau Gasol responded with 13 points and 10 rebounds for Spain.
