Rather predictable result when second ranked Leones SD (11-8) edged 4th placed Caneros LR (9-9) in La Romana 100-97 on Wednesday. The guests trailed by 19 points after three quarters before their 38-16 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Leones SD made 19-of-24 free shots (79.2 percent) during the game. Worth to mention a great performance of Jose Corporan (-88) who helped to win the game recording 21 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). Guard Elpidio Fortuna (188-85) contributed with 15 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists for the winners. Guard Kelvin Pena (193-80, college: Southeastern CC) answered with 24 points and 7 rebounds and American power forward Darnell Jackson (203-85, college: Kansas) added 13 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Caneros LR. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Leones SD maintains second place with 11-8 record having eight points less than leader Metros STGO. Caneros LR at the other side keeps the fourth position with nine games lost. Leones SD's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Santo Domingo Soles SD.
