Venezuela opened win count in Rio de Janeiro. They topped China to improve at 1-2 record at the tournament. Nestor Colmenares delivered 16 points to lead the Latin American side. Venezuela jumped to a 25:13 lead after ten minutes. China pulled within 3 points at halftime though 35:38. The Asian powerhouse got as close as one point heading into the fourth period. But Venezuela sank 21 points in the final stanza and clinched a valuable victory at the end. Gregory Vargas had 13 points for the winners. Jianlian Yi responded with 18 points and 10 rebounds for China.
