Date: August 11, 2016
Paulista top team - Mogi (6-0) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed seventh ranked Liga Sorocaba (1-3) in Mogi das Cruzes 79-58. It looked good early as Liga Sorocaba took a 6-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Mogi had a 28-14 second period charge getting the lead and Liga Sorocaba was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 58-79. Mogi forced 24 Liga Sorocaba turnovers. The best player for the winners was the former international point guard Larry Taylor (185-80, college: Missouri Western) who scored 5 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists. Naturalized American Shamell Stallworth (195-80, college: USF, agency: Interperformances) chipped in 12 points and 4 assists. Four Mogi players scored in double figures. Douglas Nunes (208-87) produced a double-double by scoring 11 points and 13 rebounds and guard Victor De Gusmao (188-93) added 10 points respectively for the guests. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the sixth consecutive win for Mogi. They maintain first place with 6-0 record. Liga Sorocaba at the other side keeps the seventh position with three games lost. Mogi will have a break next round. Liga Sorocaba will play against XV Piracicaba (#8) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
